B.Sc. Petroleum & Gas Engineering

The department offers a bachelor degree programme in Petroleum & Gas Engineering. The curriculum includes courses from different domains, including but not limited to, Production Engineering, Reservoir Engineering and Drilling Engineering. In addition to these core domains, strong support of basic sciences courses at different levels is also offered. Actual field data and related problems are included in the courses to develop field-oriented approach among the students, such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Complex Engineering Problems (CEPs), with active and strong support from the industry. In order to complement theoretical learning, strong laboratory infrastructure is in place offering opportunities for students’ hands-on experience through Open-Ended Labs. The spread of the course contents is broad enough to groom the graduates for any major area of petroleum and gas engineering profession. Through strengthened collaboration and linkages with industry, students avail opportunities to visit oil and gas fields, transmission and storage stations and refineries, to familiarize them with the tasks and operations they have to undertake in their professional career. The department maintains a successful internship program as well, which serves to provide students with ample internship training opportunities. The department coordinates and arranges guest lectures/ workshops/ webinars by seasoned alumni/ industry professionals for enhanced grooming of students.

B. Sc. Petroleum & Gas Engineering program by the department strives to bring about distinct and well-defined learning outcomes from the vast variety of teaching-learning activities entailing courses offered over a four-year period. The Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) are as follows:

  1. GA1 Engineering Knowledge: An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. GA2 Problem Analysis: An ability to identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

The curriculum of the UG program in Petroleum & Gas Engineering has been designed to adequately cover the knowledge profiles identified by Pakistan Engineering Council, as follows:

  2. WK2 Mathematics and Computing: The concept-based mathematical thinking, numerical analysis, statistics and formal aspects of computer and information science to support analysis and modelling applicable to the discipline.
  3. WK3 Engineering Fundamentals: A systematic, theory-based formulation of engineering fundamentals required in an engineering discipline.
  4. WK4 Engineering Specialization: The knowledge of engineering specialization that provides theoretical frameworks and bodies of knowledge for the accepted practice areas that are at the forefront in a discipline.
  5. WK5 Engineering Design: The design thinking knowledge that supports engineering design in a practice area of an engineering discipline.
